The Governors
Canon Ian Tomlinson, as Rector of the three parishes, has been a governor of the school since 1979, and has taken his turn at chairing the governing body. He also takes collective worship (assembly) regularly and teaches, when invited. Amongst his interests is Applied Theology, and at present he is studying for a Doctorate at King's College, London in systems thinking and systematic theology. As a parent himself, he hopes that children will be given a modern and informed view of belief and, in a church school, be introduced to the deep resources of the Christian Faith. He values the school/church link and the termly services in Kimpton Parish Church. He really enjoys his links with the school and admires the high standards of leadership and professionalism in the Headteacher and staff, for the benefit of the children.
Margaret Rome is a Foundation Governor and Chair of Governors. She has spent all her working life in the City of London working in financial institutions, the last 20 years of which were as head of personnel and administration in a bank. Her role included all aspects of personnel including pay structuring as well and recruiting, redundancies, etc. and, therefore, she has a good knowledge of employment law. The administration side of her role included purchasing of all office equipment and supplies, managing the directors' dining room and refurbishments which included liaison with architects, planners, contractors and designers. She had a direct reporting line to the Chief Executive. This background has made her a suitable candidate for the Planning and Resources Committee . Margaret lives in Thruxton with her husband. They also have a house in the Yorkshire Dales where they like to spend as much time as possible.
Maureen Peck is a Foundation Governor, appointed by the PCC. She is the retired Headteacher of Amport Primary School, which, as a rural Church of England Primary School, has many similarities in character to Kimpton School. She decided, three years ago that she would like to offer her experience in education to Kimpton School as a governor. Her knowledge of curriculum matters has led her to become Chair of the Curriculum and Standards Committee. Being retired she is able to visit the school quite frequently and currently serves as Link Governor for Early Years, pupil performance, science and P.E. She is married with three children and four grandchildren. Her main interest is music, and she sings in a large choir in Salisbury, plays the piano and oboe, and is organist and choir director at Amport Church. Maureen and her husband enjoy holidays abroad and own a small cottage in France which they visit four or five times a year.
Christine Sexton is the Acting Head Teacher on the governing body. She has worked as a class teacher at Kimpton School for seven years and also been a governor for the last four years and has worked across Foundation Stage and Key Stage One. She serves on both the Curriculum & Standards and Resources and Premises Committees and is married with one daughter.
Sylvia Barlow accepted the post of Foundation Governor to enable her to continue to support the school following her retirement as LSA in Reception Class. During nine years in the school she gained valuable experience of the KS1 curriculum, expected standards of achievement and learning. She has in the past worked in an international school for service children so has an insight into the particular needs of service families. Sylvia was previously employed for 23 years in the insurance division of a bank as a Senior Underwriter. Married with three daughters, three step-children and ten grandchildren, Sylvia lives in Andover with her husband and, when grandchildren allow, enjoys gardening, cookery, walking, reading, travelling and visiting Spain.
Nick Adley is a foundation governor. He has a son in Swans and a stepdaughter in secondary school. As an active church member he sees the role of governor as a link between education and faith. Nick and his wife Dawn chose the school due to its combination of academic performance, faith foundation and fantastic community atmosphere. After a year as a parent he felt it was time to put something back into the school and to gain a deeper understanding of the education system. He is currently sitting on the Resources and Premises Committee.
Catherine Mentzel is a Foundation Governor. She has a daughter in Herons and one in Swans class. She has worked as a trauma and ICU nurse which has proved to be a great grounding for coping in later life with the joys and dramas of being a mother and army wife! She enjoys seeing everyday school life and getting to know the children when helping with lunchtime duties and attempting to tackle the school gardens. As a Foundation Governor she is keen to preserve and develop the Christian character of the school. Serving on the Curriculum and Standards committee, she hopes to help in anyway to make Kimpton a happy place where all children and staff can flourish and grow.
Peter Lashbrook is the LEA Governor. As an ex-pupil of Kimpton School he has a keen interest in the school, assisting where possible with IT problems. As a full-time job, Peter owns an IT and Communications business, based in Salisbury. Peter hopes to bring his experience and skills in business to assist his understanding when it comes to being a School Governor. Peter understands the importance IT has in Education and is keen to play a key part in this continuing. In spare time, Peter enjoys raising money for charity, travelling, off-roading, walking and general outdoors activities.
Thom Huggins is a parent governor and Chair of the Resources and Premises Committee, with a son in Robins and another son 2 years behind. As a parent, he feels it is important to take an active interest in his sons education. Serving as a governor is one of the ways in which to do this as well as giving something back to the community. He works as a scientist with the civil service, though seems to spend less and less time in the lab and more and more behind a desk these days. He has interests in sailing, walking and golf, though active participation in these is often usurped by the children's interests in trains, Lego and all things mechanical.
