Why we assess
The process of assessment is designed to support children’s learning and is part of a cycle of activities to facilitate quality learning for all pupils.
On-going Assessments take into account the progress made by individual pupils, the effort put in and recognises the involvement of the pupil in their own learning.
Monitoring and evaluation determine progress for:
i) the individual
ii) across a year group
iii) across a key stage
iv) across the school.
Formal assessment procedures are in place for:
• Foundation Stage
• End of Key Stages 1 and 2 National Curriculum Standard Assessment Tests (SATs)
• End of Years 3, 4 and 5 QCA National Curriculum Tests
Pupil involvement in assessment
Pupils become aware of their progress through on-going verbal and written feedback on a regular basis and use self assessment to determine their next steps.Teachers share the learning objectives of lessons with the children, and both teachers and children reflect about whether these have been achieved.
Pupils’ work is celebrated in a variety of ways.
