The Curriculum Aims of the School

1. Within the framework of a Christian Education, based on the teachings of the Church of England, we aim to develop a positive attitude to life and learning. We emphasise the qualities of self-discipline, self-confidence, tolerance and sensitivity to the needs of others.

2. We aim to provide a broad-based and balanced education, which incorporates all of the legal requirements of the National Curriculum and the Foundation Stage Curriculum and which is relevant to the needs of our children.

3. We aim to provide a carefully planned curriculum which is available equally to all children, but which is also sensitive to the differing needs, rates of progress and ability levels of our children.

4. We aim to provide a stimulating, disciplined and caring environment in which children acquire the skills, interests and values which will enable them to take full advantage of their Primary Education, their Secondary Education and of their adult lives.

5. We aim to ensure that the children learn effectively and that they achieve high standards in their academic work, behaviour and personal appearance. We aim to give proper value to the efforts of individual children, so that they are proud of their achievements.

6. We aim to ensure that the teaching at our school is of the highest possible quality.

7. We aim to work closely with the children's families and to build effective partnerships with the wider community.

8. We aim to prepare our children as individuals, who are equipped to make the best use of their futures and as members of society who will make a worthwhile contribution to the world.

Early Learning Goals

Our youngest pupils are taught according to a specially designed curriculum for pre-compulsory school-aged children, called “Early Learning Goals”. The curriculum for these pupils consists of:
Personal and Social Development, Language and Literacy, Mathematics, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Creative Development and Physical Development.
It prepares the children for their statutory school-age education and the National Curriculum.

The National Curriculum consists of the following subjects

a. "Core" subjects - English, mathematics, science and ICT
b. "Foundation" subjects - Art, technology, geography, history, music, PE
c.  Religious Education    in a Voluntary Aided Church School it is treated as a core subject.
d.  Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE )

We report to parents in the Spring Term of each academic year on all the subjects and on the child's social and personal development. Parents evenings are held in the Autumn and Summer Terms.

Collective Worship

We hold Collective Worship each day for all the children. We attend Kimpton Church at the end of each term and for our Eucharist Service in the Summer Term.
Parents have the legal right to withdraw their children from daily acts of collective worship, but are asked to discuss the matter first with the Headteacher.

Sex and Relationships Education

The Governing Body has decided that Sex and Relationships Education is taught at our school. It is introduced at an appropriate age for the children and dealt with sensitively. Parents are informed before any major piece of teaching is started and are invited to view the resources used. Sex Education is taught as part of our Science and PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship) Curriculum.
Parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from Sex Education Lessons, but are asked to discuss the matter first with the class teacher or Headteacher.
Inevitably questions and observations about sexual matters occur incidentally from time to time in the course of other lessons. These are dealt with sensitively and appropriately, taking into consideration the age and maturity of the children concerned.

Drugs Education

We include drugs awareness education in our PSHCE teaching, as appropriate to the age of the children.
